Pedestrian killed in Williamson County after being hit by deputy on I-840

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Interstate 840 Tuesday night.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Peytonsville Road exit at mile marker 35.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the department received a call about a domestic incident inside a traveling vehicle on I-840. A second call then came in to dispatchers about a man walking on the interstate in the same area. 

The deputy responding to the calls and traveling on I-840 when a man ran out into the roadway in front of the patrol car and was hit, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. He died from his injuries. 

The sheriff’s office reported the deputy has been placed on administrative leave while the Tennessee Highway Patrol conducts its investigation. 

The roadway fully reopened to traffic around 4 a.m.
